Yanik Soland (*1990) lives and works as a musician and artist in Basel. He completed a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at the HGK FHNW Basel and a master's degree at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. In 2024, he obtained a second master's degree in Composition and Improvisation from the Basel University of Music FHNW, Department of Classical Music. His artistic practice spans fine arts, composition, improvisation, curation, and performance.
His visual works and performances have been showcased at institutions such as the Kunstmuseum Appenzell, Kunsthalle Basel, and the Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris. As a composer, he has written music for theater, film, as well as for his own ensemble, band, and solo projects for venues including Schauspielhaus Zürich, Junges Theater Basel, Kaserne Basel, and Ballhaus Ost in Berlin.
A central aspect of his artistic activity is the music-performance duo SOLAND ANGEL, which he founded in 2019 with Marianna Angel. Together, they regularly perform in clubs, museums, and festivals. In 2023, they received the research grant for improvised music from kulturelles.bl (Switzerland). In 2024 they were residents for 6 months at the Cité des Arts in Paris, supported by Atelier Mondial, Basel (Switzerland).
The radio play Going To Switzerland by Stefanie Müller-Frank, for which Soland contributed music and production, was awarded the Overall Gold Award and the Gan Bearia Award at the HearSay Audio Arts Festival (Ireland). His first solo album, YUKI, was released in 2021 on the label Futura Resistenza (Netherlands/Belgium). In 2023, he received a working grant from Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt and was a LAB artist-in-residence at Kaserne Basel.
